U.S. Naval Air Systems Command has issued a contract to Orbital ATK for its first article test, qualification, and production of FMU-139D/B fuses and accessories. The company's FMU-139D/B fuze, building on its all-electronic FMU-167/B Hard Target Void Sensing Fuze, will enable enhanced reliability, increased fuze functionality, and added capability to defeat hard and deeply buried targets, Orbital ATK said. A team at Cobham has just been awarded a contract by the US Army to develop next-generation technologies that are able to detect landmines and other explosive devices hidden in the ground. The $4.15 million agreement will allot Cobham 3 years to develop the new technology, and it will result in a highly specialized handheld mine detector. Harris Corporation was recently awarded a 5-year, $12 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to provide high frequency (HF) tactical radio antennas to the US Army. This contract was received during Harris Corp’s first quarter of fiscal 2016. Under this new contract, Harris Corp will provide the US Army with RF-3134 HF full loop antennas. These specific antennas are unique in that that they are compact, lightweight, and easy to install and uninstall. RF-3134 antennas do not depend on a ground plane, which allows them to be used on fixed installations and vehicles alike. Additionally, the RF-3134 interfaces with the Harris Falcon II AN/PRC-150 series of HF radios. The entire Harris antenna set includes full-loop antenna elements and tower, high voltage cable installation kit, protective boot, and a coupler/PA cable. Read more >>

The US Navy just received its sixth littoral class combat ship from a Lockheed Martin-led team during a ceremony held at the Marinette Marine Corp shipyard in Wisconsin on October 16th. Once the USS Milwaukee is commissioned in the city it is named after, it will finally be homeported in San Diego with sister littoral class ships (LCS) USS Freedom, USS Independence, USS Fort Worth, USS Coronado, and the future USS Jackson.
