On October 16, 2014, the British aerospace equipment engineering company, Meggitt PLC, announced their new contract to build a new Simulation System for the U.S. Army. Ordered with the intent to improve the quality of training soldiers and the effectiveness of training instructors, this new simulation system will be a next-generation virtual small arms trainer running on a new upgraded system. This system, dubbed the FATS M100 system, will replace the currently used EST 2000 system. Features of the new FATS M100 system include an open architecture that will allow the use of both Meggitt and third-party training modules. Army personnel will get the chance to work on their marksmanship and build experience in a three dimensional setting all while receiving coaching at the same time.
