Orbital ATK Wins $426m US Naval Air Systems Command Contact for FMU-139D/B Fuzes
U.S. Naval Air Systems Command has issued a contract to Orbital ATK for its first article test, qualification, and production of FMU-139D/B fuses and accessories. The company's FMU-139D/B fuze, building on its all-electronic FMU-167/B Hard Target Void Sensing Fuze, will enable enhanced reliability, increased fuze functionality, and added capability to defeat hard and deeply buried targets, Orbital ATK said.
"This award affirms our position as a technology leader within the military fuze and sensor industry, and will deliver more capability and greater reliability to our warfighter. Orbital ATK's FMU-139D/B will be the cornerstone of the military's general purpose bomb fuze for the foreseeable future," said Pat Nolan, vice president and general manager for Orbital ATK's Missile Products, a division of the Defense Systems Group.

In September, Orbital ATK secured a contract worth up to $260m from the US Navy for the fourth and fifth full-rate production lots of the advanced anti-radiation guided missile (AARGM). It covers all-up round missiles and captive air training missiles for the US Navy and the Italian Air Force, as well as the second foreign military sales order for the Royal Australian Air Force. Work under this contract will be performed at its Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) facility in Rocket Center, West Virginia, in collaboration with the company's design facility in Plymouth, Minnesota, US. The award is expected to total just north of $426 million, specifically with $24 million from the Navy and U.S. Marine Corps obligated at time of the contract signing.
