Few technical problems on the A350 wide-body commercial jet and the A400M military jet caused Airbus around $1.5 Billion. According to the executive officer Tom Enders; this year financial performance shows how well Airbus is doing and how backed up they are in aircraft delivery. Also the Farnborough Airshow reflects the high demand on Airbus parts and products, along with the backed up diversity of commercial production and distribution. Airbus confirms that their focus will stay on the A320 and the A350 due to the financial gain between the two series to add to that the new engine developed for the A320 series. However, this does not cover for the losses brought by the A400M and the A350 program, even though there is a significant amount of profit that is going to enter because of these programs. The Ejection seat manufacturer known as Martin Baker retests their ejection seats to decrease injury in users. The F-35 ejection seat model has caused many injuries due to the seat rotation while ejecting from the aircraft. This problem is being addressed and changes in regulations are being imposed to users such as light weight pilots. During low speed ejections light weight pilots around 136 lbs have been banned from flying the stealth jet over all. The Ministry of Defense has just announced that they have taken delivery of the 30th upgraded Merlin Mk2 helicopter from aircraft manufacturer Lockheed Martin. Representatives from the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defense were joined by Lockheed Martin UK in a ceremony to commemorate the handover of the final airframe at Leonardo’s facility in Yeovil, England. Over the past ten years the two companies have collaborated as a team in order to design, develop, and manufacture Merlin Mk2 as part of the Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme. With just a shade under $750 million, the contract for thirty Mk1 helicopters were upgraded to enhance and extend their life of operations with the Royal Navy. Read more >>
On July 28th 2016, Lockheed Martin has delivered the 24th and last MH-60R Sea-hawk helicopter to the US Navy. Lockheed Martin did this to help with the Navy’s Foreign Military Sales program that runs with the Royal Australian Navy.
