E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Completes First Flight

Northrup Grumman, the leading global security company has announced that their modified E-2D Hawkeye has completed its first flight. Northrup Grumman was awarded back in 2013 an engineering, manufacturing, and development (EMD) contract in order to design, develop, manufacture and test several sub-system upgrades in order to accommodate aerial refueling capabilities. Program Manager, E-2/C-2 Airborne Tactical Data System Program Office (PMA-231), Captain Keith Hash lauds the Northrup Grumman Aerial refueling team for their efforts in bringing this essential capability to the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye which will allow the E-2D to extend its mission times by providing longer on-station times at greater range in support of the warfighter.

Included in the upgrade are electrical and lighting upgrades, long endurance seats that will enhance field of view in the cockpit, and probe/associated piping. The first flight is important because it takes the step from concept to a fully functional aerial refueling equipped E-2D. Vice President of E-2/C-2 programs, Northrop Grumman, Jane Bishop believes this will bring the E-2D to another level which will make it even more combat persistence in the midst of on-going war. Production cut-in and retrofit plans are scheduled to begin in 2018 and will see the aerial refueling program outfit three aircraft for planned testing throughout 2018.
