The Walrus-class attack submarines of the Royal Netherlands Navy are 222ft-long and have a submerged speed of 20k with a range of approximately 11,500 miles when cruising at 9k. The 2,765 long-ton, life-extended Walrus subs are set to be replaced by 2025 after being in service since 1990. On April 14, 2014, L-3 Communications was awarded with a contract valued at approximately $50.9 Million. Awarded by the Department of Defense the contract calls for L-3 Communications, through their Global Security Solutions division, to supply Automated Installation entry hardware and software. On July 16, 2014, the manufacturing company, Raytheon Company, was awarded a contract by the United States Army Aviation and Missile Command to upgrade the Patriot Air and Missile Defense System. Valued at $235.5 Million, the contract requires Raytheon Company to produce Radar Digital Processor (RDP) kits for the Patriot System. The Patriot system is currently the world’s most up to date air and missile defense system.
