USMC Introduces Raytheon’s JADOCS aboard Nimitz-Class USS George Washington During Talisman Sabre 15

In July 2015, the United States Marine Corps embarked aboard the US Navy’s Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington and introduced the Raytheon-developed joint automated deep operation coordination system (JADOCS). Marine Corporal Steward Bach, the JADOCS operator, commented that their visit aboard USS George Washington during exercise Talisman Sabre 15 allowed them to demonstrate their capabilities. He also commented that it helped them to show how the USMC can integrate and improve the US Navy's maritime missions.

The JADOCS system connects sea and land assets in addition to offering a clear picture that will allow a combatant commander to make more efficient tactical decisions. The system also allows for more detail for real world scenarios and improves communication between allied resources.

“There is a common misconception that Marines are supposed to be a land-fighting force. We are also a sea-to-land fighting force,” said Corporal Bach. "A part of Talisman Sabre was to train Navy personnel to use JADOCS and how to use the system to integrate with marines."

Exercise Talisman Sabre is conducted every other year between the United States and Australian forces and is designed to incorporate sea, land, and air activities. It will also help increase US-Australian interoperability to respond to a range of contingencies and maintain security, peace, and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. The Talisman is currently being conducted across both North-East Queensland and the Northern Territory, and features more than 33,000 personnel, 21 ships, 200 aircraft and three submarines.
