US Navy Orders Five New-Generation Rigid Inflatable Boats from Willard Marine

The United States Navy has secured an order with Willard Marine for the delivery of five additional new-generation 11-meter-long rigid inflatable boats (RIBs). This order serves as the Navy exercising options on a 2014 contract that called for an initial delivery of 10 RIBs.

The new-generation RIB order includes three open center console (OCC) boats that will all feature twin Cummins QSB6.7 380-horsepower engines. The remaining two boats that Willard Marine will deliver are visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) boats that are equipped with QSB6.7 480-horsepower engines. All five RIBs will be equipped with Hamilton Jet HJ292 water jets.

Willard Marine has served the United States Navy and other military agencies for nearly 40 years. Their products assisted in safely transporting service men and women along with successful sea missions. Last year, the US Navy ordered eight standard craft with an open center console (OCC) configuration and two OCC LPD-17 class variants. These ships have several innovative features such as a 245-horsepower inboard Steyr diesel engine, a Bravo Two X MerCruiser stern drive, a Briartek man overboard indicator system display and antenna, and a forward M60 / M240 machine gun foundation.

Since its founding in 1957, Willard Marine has continued its legacy as a manufacturer of world class watercraft for several government entities including: U.S. military, Department of Homeland Security, foreign governments, law enforcement agencies, search and rescue organizations, and private companies. The company is currently the exclusive builder of SeaArk Marine and Crystaliner commercial vessels. Established in Santa Ana, California, the company is based in California and has facilities in Maryland and Virginia. In 2003, Willard Marine discontinued their production on recreational vessels which eventually led to the company to receive several boat building contracts with the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, law enforcement agencies, and Homeland Security.
