US Navy Awards Lockheed Martin $24M Contract for Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds

Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $24.2 million contract from the United States Navy for the production of Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds (ELGTR). This award stands as the third order of the 2013 ELGTR contract which calls for Lockheed Martin to deliver ELGTRs, associated technical data, and refurbish U.S. government shipping containers. ELGTR is a cost-effective alternative to using operational laser guided bombs (LGB) during training.

The rounds imitate the flight characteristics of Paveway II laser guided weapon systems and presents pilots with the same information they would see in an actual mission. This cost-effective training solution provides reliable live fire training while conserving tactical weapon inventory.

Currently, the United States and allied warfighters rely on ELGTR to maintain combat readiness against challenging operational target engagements. The ELGTR is compatible with F/A-18, AV-8B, F-16 and various international aircraft platforms and is the only live-fire LGB training solution that is recognized worldwide for warfighters.

Since 1992, Lockheed Martin has manufactured more than 140,000 advanced training rounds for the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and other international customers. In addition to ELGTR, Lockheed Martin's 350,000-square-foot production facility in northeastern Pennsylvania designs and manufactures combat-proven Paveway II Plus LGB kits. Lockheed Martin has provided training rounds, more than 70,000 LGB kits and 7,000 Dual Mode LGB kits to the United States Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and 20 international customers.
