The United States Navy has awarded Serco a single-award indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) Price Fighters contract. This $20 million contract calls for Serco to deliver cost, price, and engineering analysis with a one-year base period, three one-year options, and a six-month option period. Serco will also continue to provide engineering-based cost analysis for the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Department of Defense. Read more >>

In order to increase their maritime presence, the US Navy has sent the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt into Yemeni waters. USS Theodore and its escort cruiser, USS Normandy, were re-positioned from the Persian Gulf into the Arabian Sea. The nuclear aircraft carrier and guided-missile cruiser will join seven other US warships in the Yemeni waters. Read more >>

DCNS has started construction of the first Gowind 2500 corvette for the Egyptian Navy. In June 2014, DCNS outbid Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and the Dutch Damen Schelde group for the four-ship contract. In addition to the ships, DCNS will also provide their expertise on the construction of three modernized corvettes and through-life support for a FREMM frigate that will be equally up-to-date. The first Gowind ship for the Egyptian Navy will be built in Lorient while the remaining three units will be built in Alexandria. Read more >>

Currently, the United States has two icebreaker ships to patrol the Arctic, the Polar Star and the Polar Sea. However, the Polar Star is no longer operational and has been parked up, the crew transferred to the Polar Sea, and its parts transferred to the Polar Sea to keep it operational. According to Admiral Paul F. Zukunft, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, the United States is in desperate need of recreating a presence in the Arctic.
