SPAWAR Extends Comtech Adaptive Coding Capability Contract

Comtech EF Data Corp has received a USD$6.4 million contract extension from Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) for adaptive coding capability.

The subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications will use the coding capability for advanced time division multiple access (TDMA) interface processor (ATIP) terminals. The ATIP is a Layer-2 Ethernet bridging device installed on ship, shore, and submarine platforms in the Navy Multiband Terminal (NMT).

This contract extends the initial agreement that was signed in April of 2013.

Part of the agreement stipulates that the company will provide improvements to the advanced, extremely high frequency system through dynamic bandwidth management, support for higher XRD date rates, and increased throughput capacity.

Dr. Stanton Sloane, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corporation was thrilled about the announcement of the deal.

“This award was made possible by our successful completion of the initial ATIP development effort which is now under contract for its first year of production. We are proud to continue to support and enhance the capabilities of the Navy’s communications system.”

Terms of the new contract include delivering adaptive coding capability to the terminals, which was a planned performance improvement requirement under the existing ATIP contract. The extension program will bring change in the physical environment to enhance overall capacity and throughput.

Some terms included in this contract were previously agreed upon in the last one. This includes that Comtech is responsible for development and engineering services, including software design and development, as well as test and evaluation support and sustainment support on a cost-plus basis.

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. designs, develops, produces, and markets innovative products, systems, and services for advanced communications solutions. They believe their solutions play a pivotal role in providing or enhancing communication capabilities when terrestrial communications infrastructures are not available, are inefficient or are too costly.
