Marine Corps Systems Awards $207 Million Contract to Northrop Grumman
On October 23, 2014, the American global aerospace and defense technology company Northrop Grumman was awarded a defense contract worth over $207 Million. The Marine Corps Systems Command, located in Quantico, Virginia, granted the award which is actually an adjustment to an earlier contract that was made in 2009. The previous contract in 2009, worth $40 Million, called for Northrop Grumman Corp to procure four Ground/Air-Task-Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) low-rate initial production systems.This new system will provide a three-dimensional, multi-role radar system which is designed to identify rockets, artillery, cruise missiles, mortars, unmanned aircraft systems, and any other low observable targets.
In addition to the procurement of the Ground/Air-Task-Oriented Radar system Northrop Grumman Corp must also include operating spares, engineering contractor services and support, developmental and operational test support, and full transitional support to its production. The G/ATOR will be utilized by the Marine Corps within the Marine Air Ground Task Force for a span of multiple military operations. Production of the units will occur throughout the nation in the cities of Linthicum Heights, East Syracuse, Stafford Springs, San Diego, Big Lake, Londonderry, High Point, Wallingford Center, Camarillo, and Woodbridge.
