General Dynamics Electric Boat to Modernize Los Angeles-Class USS Montpelier in $46.4M Deal
In June 2015, Electric Boat received a USD$46.4 million contract from the United States Navy for planning efforts in support of maintenance and modernization work on the USS Montpelier. Under the contract, they will be responsible for performing various planning activities required to conduct an interim dry-docking period for the Los Angeles-class attack submarine.
The activities, which are needed to make sure the submarine is operating at full capacity, will include maintenance work, upgrades, and modernization activities. General Dynamics announced that if all options are exercised, the contract has a potential value of USD$259.6 million.
Built by Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics, the USS Montpelier and other Los Angeles-based submarines are designed to support anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, show-of-force, and strike missions, as well as mining, and search and rescue. The project, which is scheduled to be completed in February of 2018, will take place at the Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, Connecticut and is expected to involve nearly 600 employees.
