Polish F-16s Utilize Extended Range JASSM

On November 30th 2016, there was an article posted on Combat Aircraft talking about how there is a possible foreign military sale to Poland for the AGM 158 Joint Air to Surface Standoff missile – extended range or JASSM-ER. This was announced by the US Dense Security Cooperation Agency of DSCA.

With all the costs including aviation equipment, support, and training, the missile sale will be roughly around $200 million. This sale also includes 70 AGM 158 JASSM-ER weapons which are utilized by the Polish Air Force F-16C/d Falcon fighters.

Here is what the DSCA stated about the sale of the JASSM-ER to Poland.

“[The sale of the JASSM-ER to Poland] …will contribute to the foreign policy and the national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a NATO ally. Poland will use the enhanced capability [offered by JASSM-ER] as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defense.”

These missiles will be delivered 2016 to 2019. There beginning of the operational capability will begin in March 2017. The JASSM-ER will have a range of 500nm and have weapons that carry a 1,000lb warhead. These missiles will also have an infrared seeker at the terminal phase.

The Polish Airforce has been active since 1918 which has a fleet size of around 475 aircrafts. Currently, the General Broni Lech Majewski is the Commander and General Dyw. Slawomir Kaluzinski is the Chief of Staff.
