BAE Systems Signs Agreement with Denmark’s Terma to Support F-35 Lightning II Production

In London at the Defense & Security Equipment International exhibition, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between Terma Aerostructures A/S and BAE Systems, in which Terma will continue to manufacture subassemblies, components, and parts for the F-35 Lightning II empennage. The contract, potentially worth 1.6 billion kroner over the next 23 years, will extend collaboration between the two companies, whereby Terma delivers advanced composite structural parts for the tails of the aircraft. Paul Burns, the F-35 global procurement and supply chain director at BAE Systems, expressed satisfaction with the companies’ continued co-operation.

We are delighted to sign this agreement with Terma. We have been working together with Terma for over 10 years and have developed a strong relationship that is delivering real benefits to both companies and the F-35 program, he said.
It is through agreements such as this, with organisations like Terma, that will help BAE Systems meet our ‘Blueprint for Affordability’ commitments on the program.

In 2013, Terma entered into a long-term agreement with BAE Systems for the manufacture of Large Composite Skins for the Horizontal and Vertical Tail across all types of the F-35. Terma has also signed additional agreements for F-35 work with Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman Corporation, General Dynamics Corporation and Marvin Engineering. Terma and BAE Systems have been collaborating on the F-35 program since 2006 when the two companies signed a Letter of Intent for future partnership. In 2009 BAE Systems and Terma entered a contract for the delivery of machined parts for the F-35. Terma's involvement in the F-35 program includes eight different production programs within advanced composite structural parts and electronics. In August, BAE completed construction of the 200th rear fuselage for the F-35 Lightning II program. BAE is responsible for manufacturing the rear section of the aircraft, made up of the rear fuselage and vertical and horizontal tails of the aircraft at its facility in Samlesbury, Lancashire.
